The Creighton Kodiaks are ready to kick off another season of 6 Man  Saskatchewan High School Football.

The Kodiaks are in a new Division this year which is Conference 3 which  includes teams from Viscount, Lanigan, Carrot River and St Brieux.

Creighton will host St Briex tomorrow and Head Coach Ryan Karakochuk is very much looking forward to the season. " We are definitely excited to play at home,  which is a huge advantage and  St Brieux has never been here before. We will have to use our field and crowd and hopefully pull out a W. The boys have been practising very hard and we are impressed with each and every one of them. We don't have as many guys and we did get a couple banged up in Training Camp which is normal. Saying that, our offense looks really good and we will go all out to win this game." 

The Kodiaks will be looking to build off their 1-5 record last year that saw them play only  two home games. They also couldn't play a home game til October due to problems with their field,  so Coach  Karakochuk feels they are already ahead of where they were last season.

Kick off is at 4pm tomorrow at the Creighton Field Of Dreams against the St Brieux Crusaders and the Kodiaks are hoping for a jam packed crowd to start the season.

After a good number of intense playoff games, both the A-side and B-side finals are set for The Pas Slo-Pitch League.

At 6:30 p.m. tonight, the B-side final between the Deadly Diamonds and Fireballz will go down first at the Arena 1 baseball diamond. The A-side final, featuring The Longshots and The Tugeyes, is slated for 8:00 p.m., but it is weather pending. If the weather does not cooperate, the matchup will instead be played sometime next week.

If you’re still looking to catch some more Slo-Pitch action after tonight, keep in mind that the Tri-Community Baseball Association’s weekend tournament kicks off tomorrow and runs through Sunday. Games will be played at various fields across the community.

The Flin Flon Bombers dressed some vets last night and found their groove offensively with a 7 to 3 win over their Northern rivals,  the Laronge Ice Wolves in pre season action at the Whitney Forum.

Local product Ryder Mucha scored his first of the pre season just 38 seconds into the game and the Bombers never looked back.

Keaton Lesperance held the hot hand and had a 4 point game including two goals and two assists. Luca Martyniuk, Hank Thompson, Nathan Lalumiere and Noah Larre with his team leading third goal of the pre season all found the back of the net for the Bombers.

Everett Merchant responded with a pair for the Wolves, with the other Laronge goal coming from William Knox.

Flin Flon outshot Laronge 47 to 34 with the Bombers Josh Wu stopping 15 of 16 shots before making way for Joseph Mitchell who ended up with 16 saves on 18 shots.

Laronge used both their returning goalies from last year with Gabriel Poitras stopping 27 out of 33 before Riley Zezel came in to make 13 saves on 14 shots.

Specialty teams were a big part of the story from last night's game with the Bombers going 3 for 7 on the powerplay, while the Wolves were 0 for 5.

The game did get off to a late  start due to some problems with the Laronge bus, but the good news is they made it to Flin Flon safely and were able to play the game.

Flin Flon improves to 3-0 in the Pre Season and will finish off a busy week with a home and home with the Northern Manitoba Blizzard this Thursday and Friday.

Thursday's game is in the Pas at the Roy H Johnston Arena with a 7pm start time with Friday's game at the Whitney Forum with puck drop at 7:30pm.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey will be holding one more Equipment Blitz this Sunday September the 13th from 4 to 6pm at the Creighton Sportex.

This will be an opportunity for players and parents to come out and pick up equipment at a big discounted price.

The Pas Huskies will be holding their U15 tryouts this weekend in both The Pas and Flin Flon.

There will be two sessions taking place in The Pas on Saturday. The first time slot will run from 11:15 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., followed by a second session from 1:00 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.

On Sunday, the lone session in Flin Flon will run from 12:30 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. Interested skaters must attend both days.

Organizers are asking those interested to email tpmha.u15@gmail.com to confirm their attendance. It is also worth noting that there is no fee for the tryout.

Exciting news for the Flin Flon Hudbay Aquatic Centre, as they have announced they are bringing back the Aqua Doves Synchronized Swim Program.

This will be the first time that have had a chance to host the program in 6 years.

This is open to kids between the ages of 7 to 12 and practises will take place on Thursdays 6 to 7pm starting on October the 8th.

Only 25 spots will be available and if you are comfortable in deep water you can get a hold of Amanda Link by calling 204-923-0055.

Registration costs have yet to be determined.

The weather held up and 86 golfers teed off at the biggest event of the Phantom Lake Golf season, the Walt Cunningham Labour Day  Golf Classic.

It is a tradition that that has been going on for decades and brings lots of current and former Flonners back together for a great weekend of golf,  laughs and prizes.

Congratulations to Shawn "Booker" Goodman who knocked off every one of his opponents to claim the 2026 Championship in Match Play.

The Northern Manitoba Blizzard played three preseason games against the Swan Valley Stampeders and Flin Flon Bombers this past weekend, coming away with two wins in three games.

Friday’s home game against Swan Valley featured a back-and-forth first period. Brady Green, Liam Carlone and Atticus Cruz each found the back of the net for Northern Manitoba, while Chantyn Michell-Thompson and Dawson Martin scored for the Stampeders, leaving the Blizz with a 3–2 lead after the opening frame.

The second period belonged entirely to the Blizzard. Kanye Huang, Odile Grenier and Renat Nahnieiev each scored unanswered goals to extend Northern Manitoba’s lead to 6–2 heading into the final period. Beckett Cross added one more for Swan Valley, while Matthew O’Sullivan answered for the Blizzard, making the final score 7–3 for Northern Manitoba.

Saturday’s road game against Swan Valley was much more competitive compared to Friday’s matchup. The teams battled to a 2–2 tie through two periods before combining for eight goals in an exciting final frame. Fortunately for the Blizzard, they managed to find the back of the net just a few more times, securing a 7–5 victory.

Veteran Blizzard player Dylan Westmann had himself a night, potting two goals, while Swan Valley’s Beckett Cross also scored twice.

Sunday’s final game of the weekend saw the Blizzard travel north to Flin Flon for a Northern Manitoba matchup against the Bombers.

John Adlys opened the scoring with a power-play goal in the first period. Shortly after, Flin Flon’s Carter Stamp-Vincent responded with a power-play marker of his own to tie the game 1–1 heading into the second.

After a scoreless second and third period, the game needed overtime to determine a winner. Just 1:50 into the extra frame, Bombers forward Ben Shaw found the back of the net to give Flin Flon the 2–1 victory.

The Blizzard have just two preseason games remaining this week, both against the Flin Flon Bombers. Friday’s matchup will take place at home, with puck drop slated for 7:00 p.m.

The moment that all Flin Flon Bomber fans have been waiting for, the start to another SJHL season.

The regular season is just two weeks away and Main Camp is now underway at the Whitney Forum.

Scrimmages are scheduled for this morning with Intra Squad games to take place  this afternoon and into tonight and tomorrow.

This will be the first Bomber Main Camp for new Head Coach and GM Cole McCaig,  with the Bombers expecting 60 players at  Camp including 14 players from last year's Championship Squad.

The Phantom Lake Golf Club is excited about a brand new Par 3 Tournament coming up later in September.

It is an 18 hole tournament set to go on Saturday September the 19th which will include a chance to win $10,000.00 on all 18 holes if you get a Hole in One.

The registration fee is $150.00 which includes golf, supper and prizes.

The Men's tees will be 150 yards for the front 9 and 165 yards for the back 9. The Women's tees are 135 yards for the front 9 and 150 yards for the back 9.

The event will run from 1:15 p.m. to 3:30 p.m. and will feature fun mental and physical challenges for students and their peers to take part in.

Big news for the Humboldt Broncos as they have re-acquired Connor Miller  from the Flin Flon Bombers.

Miller was sent to Flin Flon last January in that blockbuster trade that included Goaltender Charlie Tritt and Defenseman  Ryder Knutson.

The Bombers still owe the Broncos three roster players who will be officially moved after October the 1st.

Part of the deal was Miller's roster rights returning to the Bronco's for the start of the 2026-27 regular season.

This proved to be a big trade for the Bombers as Miller was a key cog in helping Flin Flon win their first League Championship in 33 years.

Connor led the Bombers in scoring in the playoffs with 15 points including 9 goals and was also named the Playoff MVP.

This should be a very big year for the 20 year old out of Lipton Saskatchewan as he was just named the Bronco's Captain,  and will get a chance to finish his career where it all began.

OCN Child & Family Services is hosting a Youth Soccer Tournament this Saturday and Sunday.

The U8, U9, U11 and U12 teams that register will play their games on Saturday, while the U14 and U17 teams will take the field on Sunday.

Cash prizes will be awarded to the teams that finish first through third, and each roster will be capped at 10 players.

Registration opens at 11 a.m., with games kicking off at noon.

The tournament is co-ed, meaning teams must have at least two girls on the field at all times.

Flin Flon Minor Hockey is up and running for another season and lots of rep team try-outs are going to be taking place.

U-11 and U-13 team try-outs are going to be taking place the week of September the 20th to the 27th.

U-11 will be holding a registration skate on Sunday September the 20th at 1pm at the Whitney Forum and U-13 will be holding their registration skate also on Sunday the 20th at 2:30pm.

The playoffs for The Pas Slo-Pitch League are already underway, with both A-side and B-side games taking place through September 10.

Yesterday, in Round 1 of the A-side, team Balls Deep and the Agents came out on top against team Pitch Slap and the Young Guns.

On September 8th at Arena 1 Baseball Diamond, the Tugeyes will take on Balls Deep at 6:30 p.m. Right after, at 8 p.m., the Agents will play the Longshots.

Moving on to the B-side, only one game took place yesterday between the FireBallz and East L.A. The FireBallz ended up getting the better of East L.A. and will now move on to the second round, where they will face the Digmore Crushers tomorrow at Arena 1 Baseball Diamond.

Two B-side matchups will take place tonight back-to-back at Arena 1. First, at 6:30 p.m., the Deadly Diamond will go toe-to-toe against the Mall Rats. Then, at 8 p.m., the Jacs will face off against the Big Ol' Hitties.

Another school year is upon us and that means another great year of school sports.

Creighton School starts  tomorrow and will be hosting Senior Varsity Girls Volleyball Try-Outs this Wednesday and Thursday 3:30 to 5:30pm.

The Coach's will be MR Yablonski,  MS Straile and MS Atkinson.

Please notify a Coach if you cannot attend a try-out.

Information is also going to be available to anyone who is interested in Cross Country Running for the up coming year.

This is open to students in grades 7 to 12 and there will be a short information meeting in the Creighton Gym this Friday at 12:20pm.

This is open to everyone whether you are a seasoned runner or just want to give it a try.

The Blizzard officially kicked off their preseason schedule last night with a classic matchup against division rival Dauphin.

Kings forward Collin Friedrich got his team on the board first, netting his first goal of the preseason. However, shortly after, Connor Smith evened the score by potting a goal of his own to make it 1-1 just before the 10-minute mark.

Dauphin eventually put two more on the board, with one coming on the power play, to make it 3-1 heading into the first intermission.

Nic Collins and the Dauphin power-play unit struck first in the second period, scoring shortly after the halfway point. Not long after, Sutton Emelson and the Blizz penalty-kill squad answered with a short-handed goal to cut the deficit to two.

The final period saw just one goal, scored by Dauphin's Max George on the power play, making the final score 5-2.

The Blizz are set to play three more preseason games this week. This Friday, they will take on Swan here at home. Saturday's matchup will be against Swan again, but this time in their arena. Lastly, on Sunday, the Blizz will travel up to Flin Flon for a special Battle of Northern Manitoba matchup.

102.9 CJAR will be broadcasting both Saturday and Sunday's games.

Another ace at the Phantom Lake Golf Course.

Congratulations to 17 year old Junior, Walter Stenbeck who picked up his first ever hole in one with an amazing shot on Hole Number 4.

This happened back on August the 14th when Walter hammered a tee shot from the White Tees using his Driver, launching a shot well over 300 yards right into the cup.

Walter was playing with Logan Simon and Brayden Church for the second Hole In One in August and this Summer.

Walter also placed second in the Junior Tournament which took place last Saturday at 9 over. Jack Dubinak was one stroke better at 8 over and finished first.

The Hapnot Kopper Kings Soccer team is looking for any students in grade's  9 to  12 who are  interested in playing for the team this season.

Practises are Tuesdays and Thursdays 4 to 6 pm at the Phantom Field. The first practise is Wednesday September the 9th from 4 to 6pm.

Tournaments are scheduled for September the 19th in Swan River, September the 26th in Neepawa and Zones will take place right in Flin Flon this year on October the 2nd and 3rd.

Provincials are scheduled for Morris on October the 16th and 17th.

You need to be at every practise if you want to play this season.

The U-18 Norman Northstars held their training camp this past weekend at the C.A Nesbitt  Arena in Thompson.

Kids from all over the North were in camp including a contingent from Flin Flon, Creighton and Denare Beach.

24 kids from various communities earned spots including 6 from the Flin Flon area.

Congratulations to Forwards Michael Pawlachuk from Flin Flon and Jaxson Gorrell from Creighton. Defensemen Ashton Harrison and Ethan Pawlachuk from Flin Flon and  Reed Grenier from Cranberry. Westyn Hlady from Creighton  grabbed one of the goaltender positions. 

Other communities that will be represented include Thompson, The Pas, Rankin Inlet, Norway House and OCN.

The season will start on Saturday October the 3rd when the Northstars will welcome the Winnipeg Wild to town for a 7pm puck drop at the C.A Nesbitt Arena.
